Slack Security Engineering is hiring a curious Senior Staff level blue team software engineer to help drive our threat detection program and collaborate on our development efforts. An interest in development, operations, curiosity, and a deep desire to learn are key to a successful team member. You will work directly on the Slack Security Engineering team focusing on threat detection, logging, and remediation. We aim to provide a record of all actions taken in our environment to address any unknowns, acknowledging no system is perfect. We'd like you to have experience in Data Science / ML work, starting with simple ML models for anomaly detection, with the goal of advancing to using LLMs to enhance alerting capabilities and train classification/clustering models on our data for sophisticated alerts and self-learning feedback loops. The ideal candidate is passionate about finding IOCs and suggesting new detection features and methods. Experience with APT tradecraft and threat intel is a plus. Many team members are multidisciplinary engineers writing Go, Python, and scaling Elasticsearch. We're cautious AI adopters, benefiting from modern AI tools like Cursor. This role supports our US-based, distributed SecOps team working closely with Melbourne & Auckland teams. We value frequent communication (via Slack and Zoom), participation in on-call rotations, and broader engineering engagement at Slack. Slack fosters a positive, diverse, and supportive culture.
